A series of scams impersonating a Swift Current restaurant has been making the rounds.

Standard Motors and Kevin's Ultimate Detail both received fraudulent calls by someone trying to pretend to be Wong's Kitchen on Friday.

Steven Liu, the owner of Wong's Kitchen, said he was caught off guard when both businesses reached out about the incidents.

"They're screaming and yelling that you have to come to Wong's to pick up your order and pay for your order," he said was the impersonators tactic.

This isn't the first time the restaurant has been targeted by impersonators. A few months ago Liu said they received a call from a woman outside of the Swift Current area claiming she'd received a call and text from Wong's looking for money.

"She had to pay for the order through the text message link," he said. "She finally got annoyed and called me here and was screaming at us but it was not us."

Liu reached out to the RCMP after the first incident and was hoping for some sort of help but to no avail.

"I called them a few times but they told me they can't do anything about it," he said. "I even told them that's not good for my business. I wish that they could post something online. Let the public be aware of it. Hopefully, nobody else is going to do it again to another business."

He's hoping by sharing his story with the public, it will safeguard other southwestern Saskatchewan small businesses from similar incidents.

"When this happens, sometimes it's not just annoying, it's' more likely you're just hurting their business," he said. "That's the number one concern."
