The City of Swift Current has a new interim Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in Jim Jones, and he officially steps into the role today.

Jones has been with the City of Swift Current as General Manager of Community Services since 2019, with 25 years of experience in recreation, management and leadership throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta.

His title shift brings different responsibilities, including overseeing City operations and providing leadership to its employees.

The interim position won’t be entirely new territory, though; Jones has temporarily filled in for previous CAO, Tim Marcus, on multiple occasions.

In a media release the City wrote, “Always up for a challenge, Jim has a long history of providing leadership in projects and events. He has been the host chairman, director, president, coach, or committee member for countless sporting events, including the 2012 Hockey Canada TELUS Cup, the 2010 Hockey Alberta Cup, several Western Canadian Championships, and is even a member of the Softball Canada Hall of Fame, twice.

“After attending Camrose Lutheran College in Camrose, Alberta, and The United States International University in San Diego, California, on hockey scholarships, Jim graduated from Kelsey Institute of Applied Arts & Sciences with a diploma in Recreation in 1984. He is also a graduate of the University of Alberta Certificate in Municipal Management and Leadership program.

“Jim has a background in agriculture operating a mixed cattle and grain farm near Conquest, Saskatchewan. He is married to Lynne, a retired registered nurse. They have two grown sons; one of which is a teacher in Calmar, Alberta and the other is the Brand and Promotions Manager for the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League.”

Once a permanent appointment is made, Jones will go back to his previous management role.
