The Center in Swift Current are doing their part to help upcoming graduates in participation with the Reimer family.

The Dr. Lawrence Reimer Memorial Bursary is available to 2023 graduates as Nathan Wiebe, Executive Director of The Center explains.

"If you go to our website there is information about the bursary and there is an application form. A lot of the times were looking at kids who have attended here and we ask for a bio, we ask for some references. Just some general questions that give us an idea of your encompassing goal in the community."

Wiebe says that to be able to provide a student that comes to The Center with the opportunity to get hold of some post secondary assistance in the finance department is important. He says they want to see kids taking on the challenge of studies after high school.

Wiebe describes the importance behind the legacy of this bursary.

"Dr. Reimer was somebody that had a huge heart for The Center. He was always checking up on us and myself and he held a special place here. We wanted to remember his legacy and doing something for a place he really believed in."

According to Wiebe the Reimer family have loved the idea of the bursary from the beginning and have helped to put it together and he says the family are a special support system at The Center and have been since the beginning.

Youth focused on service and giving back to the community is a big help but Wiebe says they want to help someone with a situation that may not be ideal if they really want to go to post-secondary this could be a pathway along the way.

Wiebe adds that one applicant will be awarded the bursary in June. He also says that they are happy to honor Dr. Reimer's name and miss him dearly.
