Kayd Ruedig's second goal of the game was the overtime winner as the Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires picked up a 3-2 win over the Saskatoon Blazers on Saturday night at Innovationplex.
Tristan Mitchell-McElhone opened the scoring at the 5:45 mark of the first period, and Ruedig made it 2-0 for the Legionnaires on the power play at 6:33 of the third. After Porter Nickason was assessed a major penalty for interference, Lee Shurgot and Raiden Zacharias scored 25 seconds apart during the five-minute man advantage to tie the game up at 2-2. Ruedig scored with 53 seconds left in the extra frame to give the Legionnaires their third straight victory.
Berney Weston made 33 saves in regulation and overtime as the Blazers outshot Swift Current 35-30.
The Legionnaires (8-3-0) and Blazers play again Sunday afternoon at the AGT Community Centre in Eston.
