The Swift Current U15 AAA 57's opened the season by winning two of their four games on the weekend. The 57’s split a double-header with the Sask Five Giants, winning 23-1 and losing 19-5 on Saturday, and then hosted the Regina White Sox on Sunday, losing 4-0 and winning 4-2.

The U13 AAA 57’s swept their season-opening doubleheaders, beating Moose Jaw Red 25-18 and 16-5 on Saturday, and the Weyburn Beavers 11-9 and 14-8 on Sunday.

Panthers on verge of sweeping the Leafs

Sam Reinhart scored the overtime winner as the Florida Panthers beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 to take a 3-0 stranglehold on their NHL playoff series.

Anthony Duclair and Carter Verhaeghe also scored for the eighth-seeded Panthers, who won their sixth straight playoff game to put the favoured Leafs on the brink of elimination.

Elsewhere, Seattle scored five times in the second period en route to a 7-2 home over the Dallas Stars. The Kraken lead the series two games to one. Also, Jack Hughes scored twice as New Jersey doubled up Carolina 8-4 to cut their series deficit to 2-1.

Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers host the Vegas Golden Knights after tying up the series at a game apiece with a 5-1 win on Saturday night.

Jays wrap up sweep in Pitsburgh

Whit Merrifield had a home run and four RBI as the Toronto Blue Jays routed Pittsburgh 10-1 to complete a three-game sweep of the Pirates.

Daulton Varsho and Kevin Kiermaier also homered for the Jays, who outscored the NL Central-leading Pirates 22-3 over the weekend series. The Jays have the day off today before starting a two-game set in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Three local judokas medal at Katsuta Kup

Five local judo athletes took part in the Katsuta Kup in Raymond, Alberta this past weekend. 

Blake Rempel won gold in the Under-14 38-kilogram class, Tallon Moen took home silver in the U14 60-kg class, and Eliot Perrault took home bronze in the U14 38-kg class.
