Folks in the area with little humans might notice empty pharmacy shelves when on the hunt for children’s painkillers for the next while.

The nationwide shortage has been affecting families in Swift Current for some time without a relief date in sight.

According to Jahnaya Mann, a pharmacist at the local Pharmasave, they are able to get the medications on and off.

“It does give some relief here and there,” she said. “We can also get bulk bottles, and package them down to a smaller size that’s appropriate for dispensing to patients.”

Pharmacists have the ability to compound the medication along with many other solutions for those who can’t find what they’re used to getting on the shelves.

“All hope isn’t lost,” Mann assured. “Just what you’re used to buying and seeing over the counter is few and far between.”

She added that as supply slowly begins to catch up with demand, folks should only buy what is necessary (rather than stocking up) to ensure that every child has access to pain and fever remedies as needed.
