It didn't take long for a Swift Current product to be selected in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft this morning.

Defenceman Griffin Darby was selected in the first-round 17th overall by the Portland Winterhawks.

The 14-year-old played for two Swift Current teams last year. He primarily skated with the U15 AA Broncos where he scored six goals and registered 29 assists in 28 games.

The left-shot defenceman also played six games for the Swift Current U18 AAA Legionnaires where he recorded an assist.

Griffin's older brother Hudson was drafted by the Winterhawks in 2021 in the 5th round and played seven games for them this past season.

And his father Regan played in the AHL and ECHL.
