Southwest 2SLGBTQIA+ community members now have a safe space in the heart of Swift Current.

The Southwest Saskatchewan Pride Drop-in Centre recently relocated to the 200 block of 1st Avenue Northeast, holding a soft re-opening on Saturday for people to get familiar with finding it.

Jay Strahan, member at large for the board, is excited to host some of this week's Pride events at the new centre.

"Loving that it's bright and airy ... physically accessible, with the wheelchair lift," she said. "Also being downtown and near transit, it's so much easier for people to make it here, which is what we want. We want to create a welcoming space that's accessible for everyone."

By noon, dozens of people had already wandered in to 201-234 1st Avenue Northeast to check out what the new location has to offer. With two exterior walls, the second-level space has plenty of windows to let in natural light.

Following today's flag raising ceremony in Market Square at 12 p.m., a board game night will be hosted at the Drop-in Centre at 6 p.m.
