Spiritwood RCMP released an update on Monday evening regarding the dangerous persons alert issued on Monday afternoon after shots were fired on the Witchekan Lake First Nation.

The investigation has identified two male suspects that police are actively trying to locate.

Kelly Witchekan is 22 years old. He has brown hair and eyes, and is 5’9” and 140 lbs. Melvin Starblanket is 33 years old. He has black hair and brown eyes, and is 5’9” inches and 160 lbs. Both have connections to Witchekan Lake First Nation. 

Also, police say that the dark red Mustang that was believed to be their mode of transportation has been located and is not involved in the incident. 

The scope of the investigation has changed from a province-wide search to specifically focused on the Witchekan Lake First Nation and surrounding area.

On Monday afternoon, the Spiritwood RCMP issued a province-wide dangerous persons alert after reports of shots being fired on the Witchekan Lake First Nation.

Police say in a media release, that several armed suspects were spotted earlier on Monday in a mid-2000s dark red Mustang. 

At this time, the RCMP believes this incident is not connected to the James Smith Cree Nation investigation. 

Residents in the area are asked to seek immediate shelter and not to leave their secure location. Use caution when allowing others into your home, do not approach suspicious persons, and do not pick up hitchhikers.  

Report suspicious persons, emergencies, or information on the investigation to 9-1-1. 

Witchekan Lake First Nation is approximately 130 kilometres west of Prince Albert.
