A new benchmark for smile cookies purchased and consumed in Swift Current has been set.

The trio of Tim Hortons served up more than 18,000 chocolate chip cookies topped with blue and pink icing from September 19 to 25.

Kidsport Swift Current is the recipient of the annual campaign and has been for the last 14 years. This year the cheque they'll receive from the local Tim Hortons will exceed $18,000.

"We can't say enough about the owners of Tim Hortons here in town," said Kevin Patenaude, a board member for Kidsport Swift Current. "To pick Kidsport for their charity and the work they do. This goes so far to help us to raise the dollars to help the kids in this community."

The local support for the food fundraiser even caught Tim Hortons off guard, as they ran out of the popular cookies at times.

Kidsport aided 54 individuals last year with funding and Patenaude added applications are approaching pre-pandemic levels again.

"The timing couldn't be any better with the increasing costs in everything," he said.

The previous record was set last year with 16,265 cookies bought during the Smile Cookie program. Since Tim Hortons partnered with Kidsport Swift Current, they've raised $155,000.
