The Dangerous Person Alert issued by the Saskatchewan RCMP on Wednesday morning has been cancelled.

Police said in a release this afternoon that one adult male is deceased and another adult male has sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of a shooting that occurred in the area of the Country Inn Motel in Melville.

The injured male has been taken to hospital for treatment.

Police immediately responded to the area following reports of shots fired. The first report came in at approximately 9:19 a.m. this morning.

Their initial investigation has determined that is incident was believed to not be random and as result there is not a heightened risk to the general public at this time. Should that change, the Saskatchewan RCMP will notify the public immediately.

There will continue to be an increased police presence in Melville and on roadways in and around the community as the investigation unfolds.

Saskatchewan residents are asked to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to police and call 911. Any tips or information relating to this incident should be reported to police immediately – this includes thefts of vehicles.
