This was the first year that Shaunavon Fire and Rescue has sent members to the FireFit Championship Competition, which took place this past weekend in Regina.

The FireFit Competition is a very physical competition based on fire fighting tasks performed in emergency situations.

There are many different levels of Competitors, from the seasoned 10 year veteran to the first time rookies.

Clayton Greenlay, Corey Gulaga and Riley Malone all qualified in the competition to attend the National and World Competitions.

Gulaga and Malone won gold in the Tech2 Relay Challenge, as Shaunavon Fire Chief, Merrick Goldstein, explains,

"It's kind of like a two-man relay. So, you basically do the whole circuit of the individual, but you only do half of it, and then you exchange an air ball, and then the other member goes and does the other half."

Greenlay will not be competing in the Nationals as he had prior obligations.

Gulaga placed 10th overall in the individual competition, and also won a gold in the Chiefs category.

Shaunavon and District Fire and Rescue came in 4th overall as a department in the competition.

The Nationals and Worlds Competition  will take place September  7-11 at Spruce Meadows in Calgary Alberta.
