Members of the Shaunavon Silhouettes senior girls basketball team is among a group of students from several centres headed to the provincial capital Wednesday morning to try and prevent what could be the end of their 2019-20 high school basketball season.

The Swift Current Online newsroom received confirmation that a group of Shaunavon players are heading to picket outside of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building starting at 11 a.m. on March 11.

The Silhouettes cruised to a win at their SHSAA 2A Girls Conference 8 tournament in Kerrobert over the weekend. They're one of 10 southwest teams10 southwest teams whose upcoming Regional tournament, as well as possibly Provincials, will be cancelled officially at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon if impending sanctions aren't lifted.

The sanctions are set to come into effect Thursday morning by the Sask Teachers Federation - if Wednesday's mid-afternoon deadline passes without an agreement between the Provincial Government and STF, then SHSAA is moving on from the remaining two stages of the season.

The team says they just want the issue resolved, and are open to talking with either side involved in the bargaining process.

We'll have updates on the matter if an agreement is reached, or if the 3:30 p.m. deadline passes without one.
