The City of Swift Current has closed the Kiwanis Sk8 Park as of Sunday afternoon.

The move, which was effective immediately at the time of the City's press release, was made to aid in the practice of social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are taking this step to increase social distancing among members of the public,” said Jim Jones, General Manager of Community Services with the City. “With the warm weather we are experiencing, we are seeing a high number of individuals and families utilizing the skateboard park. We are asking citizens to stay off of this facility in the name of public safety.”

This comes days after the City and Chinook School Division issued the recommendation for residents to stay off playground equipment for the foreseeable future to avoid the potential to spread the virus.

That recommendation was carried across all facilities in the Chinook School Division as well.
