Argos dethrone Bombers in thrilling Grey Cup game

The Toronto Argonauts are Grey Cup champions for a record 18th time after knocking off the defending champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers 24-23 in an instant classic on Sunday at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium.

Argos quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson threw for 203 yards before being pulled in the fourth quarter to injury, then backup Chad Kelly engineered a five-play 36-yard touchdown drive to put Toronto ahead by a single point. After a late field goal attempt by Boris Bede was blocked by the Bombers, a potential game-winning attempt by Marc Liegghio was blocked by the Argos to seal the win for the Boatmen.

Henoc Muamba, who had three tackles and an interception for the Argos, was named Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian, becoming only the second player in CFL history to receive both Grey Cup player awards.
