Busy Halloween weekend for local minor hockey

The Source for Sports U18 AA Broncos picked up five out of a possible six points on the road with a 3-2 overtime loss in Estevan on Friday, a 5-4 win over Weyburn on Saturday, and a 3-0 win over the Regina Capitals on Sunday. 

The Full Line Ag U18 AA Wildcats picked up a 4-1 win over the Northwest Sharks in the Battlefords on Saturday and a 1-1 tie in Saskatoon on Sunday. 

The Graphic Edge U15 Wildcats lost 7-5 and 13-1 to Saskatoon and the WW Smith Insurance U13 Wildcats beat the Lumsden-Bethune Lynx 9-6 and 8-1 on the weekend.

Playoffs set at Western Showdown

The IG Wealth Management Western Showdown wraps up today at the Swift Current Curling Club with the semi-finals set for 9:00 this morning. 

Five-time world champion Niklas Edin of Sweden will face Korea’s Yeongseok Jeong while Kevin Koe battles Jacques Gauthier in the other semi-final. The winners will meet in the final today at 1:00pm.

Leafs blow late lead in OT loss to Ducks

Trevor Zegras scored two goals, including the overtime winner as the Anaheim Ducks rallied from down 3-1 to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 in the NHL on Sunday. The Leafs finished off their five-game western conference swing with just a single win.

Meanwhile, Jack Eichel scored with seven seconds left in the extra frame as the Vegas Golden Knights edged Winnipeg 2-1. Former Bronco Adam Lowry had the lone goal for the Jets.

There are no Canadian teams in action on a light Halloween NHL schedule tonight.

In the WHL on Sunday, Regina beat Tri-City 7-3, Calgary edged Vancouver 3-2 and Red Deer routed Edmonton 7-2. The Broncos host the Giants on Wednesday night.

World Series resumes in Philly

The Fall Classic returns to Philadelphia for the first time since 2009 as the Phillies host the Houston Astros in game three of the World Series tonight.

The two teams split the first two games in Houston, with the Phillies rallying for a 6-5 victory in game one on Friday before Houston evened up the series with a 5-2 win in game two.

Noah Syndergaard will start for the Phillies against Houston's Lance McCullers, Jr.
