Skinner shines as Oilers beat Blues

Former Broncos goalie Stuart Skinner made 37 saves as the Edmonton Oilers beat St. Louis 3-1 Wednesday's NHL action.

It’s Skinner’s first victory in two starts this season for the Oilers. He won a WHL Championship with the Broncos in 2018.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his 200th career NHL goal and Jesse Puljujarvi and Zach Hyman also scored for Edmonton.

Meanwhile, Ilya Sorokin made 41 saves for his first shutout of the young season as the New York Rangers blanked the Islanders 4-0. Kyle Palmieri scored twice for the Rangers, and Brandon Hagel scored the winning goal on the power play with 4:27 left to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning past the Anaheim Ducks 4-2.

Six Canadian teams highlight a 10-game slate in the NHL tonight. The Montreal Canadiens visit the Buffalo Sabres, the Ottawa Senators host the Minnesota Wild, the Oilers continue their road trip in Chicago against the Blackhawks, the winless Vancouver Canucks make a quick trip to Seattle to face the Kraken, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are in San Jose to take on the Sharks.

In the WHL Wednesday night, Moose Jaw beat Regina 2-1 and Red Deer beat Victoria 6-2. The lone game on tonight's schedule has Edmonton hosting Vancouver. The Royals visit the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night.

Raptors get some revenge against 76ers

Gary Trent, Jr. had 27 points and Pascal Siakam picked up 20 points and 13 assists as the Toronto Raptors beat Philadelphia 119-109 Wednesday night at Scotiabank Arena. It was the first game between the two teams since the 76ers eliminated the Raptors in the first round of the playoffs last season.

They meet again Friday night in Toronto.
