Broncos suffer first pre-season loss in Estevan

The Regina Pats scored four unanswered goals to come back from down 2-0 and beat the Swift Current Broncos 4-2 in WHL pre-season action Tuesday night in Estevan. 

Ty Hurley and Brady Birnie scored for the Broncos as they took the 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Connor Bedard scored twice while Corban Almen and Borya Valis also scored for the Pats. Joey Rocha and Berney Weston combined for 35 saves in the Broncos net. 

The Broncos wrap up the pre-season with a pair of games against the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday in Swift Current and Saturday in the Gas City. 

Colts Soccer team drop season opener

The Swift Current Comprehensive High School Colts soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Moose Jaw Central in their league season opener Tuesday afternoon.

Blue Jays split doubleheader with Tampa to stay ahead of Rays in wild card race

George Springer hit a two-run homer and Whit Merrifield drove in two runs with a pinch-hit double as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-2 last night to get a split of their doubleheader. 

The Rays won the opening game 4-2. 

Toronto remains a half-game ahead of Tampa Bay in the American League wild card race. The five-game series continues tonight with Ross Stripling starting for the Jays. 

Kyrou staying in St. Louis

The St. Louis Blues locked up Jordan Kyrou to an eight-year deal worth $65 million. Kyrou had a career best season last year, scoring 27 goals and 75 points, plus seven goals and nine points in the playoffs.

Las Vegas Aces on the brink of WNBA title

League MVP A’ja Wilson had 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Las Vegas Aces to an 85-71 win over the Connecticut Sun in game two of the WNBA Finals. 

The Aces lead the best-of-five series two games to none and can clinch their first title with a win Thursday night in Connecticut.

Chloe Dufour-Lapointe retiring

Canadian Olympian Chloe Dufour-Lapointe has announced her retirement from competitive skiing.

The 30-year-old moguls skier from Montreal competed in four Olympics, winning silver at the 2014 Sochi Games behind her younger sister Justine. Chloe won the World Cup title in 2014-15 and competed in 14 world championships, winning silver in dual moguls in 2011 and gold in 2013.
