The SCBEX Awards have honoured many long-standing companies in Swift Current, but few have as much history as Stark & Marsh, which celebrated its centennial anniversary two years ago.

The finance company won the Employer of the Year Award at the 25th Annual SCBEX ceremony, which recognizes businesses with the highest standards for their workers.

Stark & Marsh's CEO and Partner Elden Moberg received the award.

“It's pretty humbling, really, I think there are so many businesses in the community that probably could win this award,” said Moberg. “Ultimately, from my perspective, a lot comes right down to what we're trying to accomplish as a firm. We're trying to take care of our people, trying to create a good environment for them to work in, and I think in our case, we're really trying to give back to the communities that we live in. I think that those are important aspects, not just for us, but I think they should be for all business owners.”

Stark & Marsh works with many of the local businesses in Swift Current to help them succeed and grow in an ever-changing market. They also work with many local farms and ranches, ensuring that their taxes, wealth management and complex financial circumstances are covered while meeting their financial reporting and filing obligations.

“We do poll our people and we do that with some regularity to try and see the areas where we maybe can improve,” explained Moberg. “When we do that, there are certain categories that you can look at and you can say, ’OK, here's our benchmark, how can we improve it for the next time’...Obviously, we have to get work done and we have to take care of our clients, but we don't draw a map to do it. There are lots of different ways we can get to the finish line and still be successful.”
