Street Sweeping is winding into a more regular rhythm in Swift Current.

With the bulk of the cleanup done for spring, summertime will see the street sweeping crews focus more on maintaining the work that's been done.

Mitch Minken, the general manager of infrastructure and operations for the City of Swift Current, is pretty happy with how well this year's program has gone.

"It's going well," shared Minken. "Our official residential sweeping program is now complete. Now we're focusing on parking lots and lanes, which is something that requires some work because we have sand in a bunch of lanes this year because of the rain."

Folks can expect to see the street sweeping truck in the downtown core on Fridays, making sure that the busiest streets in Swift Current are kept pristine and free of debris.

There is also some work moving back into the residential areas across the city. The plan is to go out and tackle some of the dustier street corners near homes where the first pass wasn't enough.

"We're going to be doing some extra clean up in those in those residential areas where we weren't able to get to a particular spot on the street because," said Minken. "Where it was maybe a little bit heavier and we didn't get as good a quality sweep as we liked."

If folks think a street could use another pass, they are invited to report it by filling out an inquiry form. One of the most common reasons for a street to be dirty is that vehicles were left parked along the road. When that happens, the sweepers are forced to drive around them, leaving behind dust and particulates under the car or truck.

If anyone is curious when street sweeping is supposed to come by their area, the City of Swift Current posts on its social media channels an announcement for every pass made.
