Swift Current was bustling over the weekend, with the Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History returning to an in-person event in the city.

Yvonne Laviolette, member of the Swift Current Kinettes, said that the event could not have been held on a more ideal day.

“The sun was shining, the sky was blue, the families came out with their children, and everybody was really, really happy to be able to join together to walk for cystic fibrosis,” she stated.

Over 60 individuals turned up to walk for the event that last took place in person back in 2019.

Laviolette added that the day became an emotional reunion for many after not seeing each other for a number of years.

“I was actually kind of tearing up a bit when I got to see the families and the young kids that have grown so much in the last two years, and to see the joy in their faces as we started our walk today,” she said.

Although totals are still being calculated, Laviolette estimates that $7,500 was raised during the event.

“It is nice to see the families that have been affected by this disease able to come out every year and to be able to see their families grow and that life goes on,” she concluded.
