After nearly seven years in the position, Karla Wiens is stepping down from her role as CEO for the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce.

The announcement was sent out yesterday afternoon, stating that her last day would be March 31, 2025. Wiens's contract was set to expire on December 31 this year, but the Chamber board of directors was able to extend it to ensure the smooth transition of the role to a new CEO.

For Wiens, the decision comes as she is ready for a change in her life.

"I'm also entering a stage of my life where I think it's a good time for change for the Chamber and myself," said Wiens. "I'll be taking a step back from the Chamber, but that's not to say I won't be involved anymore."

Wiens plans to continue being involved, both as a former CEO and resource for the new leadership to reference and as a local farmer with her own business.

Since joining the Chamber in 2017, Wiens has been the driving force behind the continued growth of the Chamber. She has been the one behind the wheel, steering the group through the Pandemic Era.

"We have grown over the years even factoring in the Covid years, where times were tough," said Wiens. "We have successfully expanded the networking opportunities and events that we provide for our members to connect with each other, with new customers, and with new employees."

The skills and tools she has developed in that time have led to an increase in membership benefits. Businesses and partners of the Chamber have enjoyed the changes Wiens has overseen, such as the new Chambers Perks App, the E-Commerce project, and growing membership in general to over 400 businesses.

Wiens thanked the board of directors and the Chamber membership for making the job the most rewarding venture in her professional career.

"I would like to thank the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce members and non-members as well for everything that they have participated in," said Wiens. "Our events, our offerings, our entire community in southwest Saskatchewan."
