Swift Current Christian Taekwondo made some history over the weekend as they gathered folks to the Stockade at Kinetic Exhibition Park.

The sport's provincials came to the city for the first time on Saturday, which owner and head instructor Gary Voysey, said was a high honour.

"It was awesome, to put it mildly," he said. "We are happy to report that the principles of the sport were maintained, like courtesy, integrity – perseverance was huge. We saw close to 140 competitors from around the province get together in this great little community of ours and just have a great day. As the host of this event, I'm just so pleased with the way it went."

Doors opened at 8 a.m., with an opening ceremony an hour later. The first divisions kicked off at 9:45 a.m., with the last going at 3:30 p.m.

Competitors came from all corners of the province, with a total of 11 schools taking part.

"We couldn't have done any of this without the parents, the athletes themselves – and the volunteers made this event outstanding," Voysey added. "Honestly, I was extremely humbled by the outpouring of support from the business community here in Swift Current. It was absolutely incredible."

The event's sponsors included IG Wealth Management (Ron Eichel), Home Inn & Suites, the City of Swift Current, Anchor Dental Group, Alpine Dental, Pioneer Co-op, Stark and Marsh CCA LLP, Regier Honda, Blue Hill Excavating Inc.

Saskatchewan WT Taekwondo Association Inc. sponsored the medals, and the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) was the volunteer sponsor.
