Emergency Service Workers are among the few who were eligible for the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medals in Saskatchewan.

These awards are being presented in honour of her late Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II, and her accomplishment in achieving the title of the longest reigning monarch in Canada's history, at 70 years.

In Saskatchewan, only 50 of these awards were made available for EMS workers. Of those 50, four have found their way to Swift Current after being bestowed to members of the Hutch Ambulance Service.

Those four are as follows: Duane Doane, Cameron Hutchinson, Natalie LeBlance, and Rachel Tyler.

Owner-operator of Hutch Ambulance Services, Kathy Kennedy, was thrilled upon learning of her staff's prestigious recognization.

"It's quite an honour, actually," said Kennedy. "I think this is kind of like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them, and that it's well deserved."

Cameron Hutchinson, Kennedy's husband, works out of multiple centres, including the one in Swift Current. Hutch Ambulance Service also operates in Assiniboia, Ponteix, and Moosomin.

The winning members of the Hutch Ambulance team were presented their medals by the honourable Russel Mirasty, the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.

These Platinum Jubilee Medals are now being handed out post-humously, since Her Majesty's passing on September 8 earlier this year. Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in 1952, on February 6. During her reign, she worked alongside 12 Canadian Prime Ministers, made 21 visits to Canada, and five visits to Saskatchewan, with one visit to Swift Current in 1951 before becoming Queen.
