Swift Current has had its first major blaze of the year.

At 8:15 a.m. today, fire crews and EMS responded to a fire on Fifth Avenue Southeast.

As crews arrived, they witnessed thick smoke billowing out of the basement window. They quickly conducted a search of the building and found no residents inside. 

The fire was quickly extinguished, with no injuries reported. 

The structure has sustained heavy damage and will be inspected further for the cause of the fire.
