After a series of lightning strikes set a devastating fire to the Stewart Valley School and Community Centre last week, residents from surrounding communities gathered together for support.

Swift Current Mayor, Al Bridal, made a written statement last night on behalf of the City of Swift Current expressing their sympathy to everyone affected by the loss.

Bridal shared that they stand with Stewart Valley as residents process the tragic event.

He noted how folks jumped in to help however and wherever they could on Friday, showing how a community consolidates in times of need.

“Continue to stand together and know that our thoughts are with you as you navigate this difficult time,” he wrote.

Twelve firefighters from the City's fire department helped battle the blaze that ended up consuming everything in the facility, leaving only brick walls remaining.
