When it comes to equipment deals, one offer has swept the competition.

City council has agreed to the purchase of a new road sweeper, from Raymax Equipment Ltd. out of Calgary, Alberta.

The total cost of the new machine, including trade-in and PST, is almost $380,000.

General Manager of Infrastructure and Operations for Swift Current, Mitch Minken, explained why the old unit, a 2011 Elgin Road Wizard Sweeper, needs to be replaced only 11 years into its lifespan.

"Street sweepers are high maintenance units since they are used in dust-filled environments, and are in continuous operation up to eight months of the year, resulting in a high degree of wear on parts," detailed Minken.

Sweeper units are replaced more regularly to stay ahead and keep up the level of service required to maintain city roads and walkways.

And while the new unit, a 2022 Global M4HSD, may seem rather pricey at over a quarter of a million dollars, it's actually the cheaper of the two offers the city received. The other offer would have cost the City nearly $27,000 more.
