A place to play, especially an inside one during the winter, is always a welcome addition to any community.

With yesterday's grand opening of the Swift Fun Park in the Swift Current mall, there is yet another great space for families to meet in Swift Current.

The grand opening was a short event that featured the Play Zone structure now dominating the centre of the mall, as well as a cupcake decorating station, a scavenger hunt, and a general play area with a small bouncy house and ball pit for all-around fun called the Explore Zone.

Speaking at the grand opening was Swift Current Mayor Al Bridal. he was in attendance under invitation and as someone who could appreciate how his grandkids would enjoy the structure.

"It's great," asserted Bridal. "It's one more thing for children and some of my grandchildren to do in Swift Current."

The structure itself is filled with many fun crawl spaces, slides, zip lines, rope walks, and more.

Today, kids in attendance with their families were able to jump in and play after the grand opening ceremony took place. They quickly took to climbing, swinging, crawling, and running through the Play Zone area.

"I can see this play structure behind me, where the children would have gobs of fun climbing up and down and down the side and all around, and then the big play area down the way where younger children can play with friends and run around. It's really good."

Previously, the space was open for kids to play in, operating since December 2022. The play space has now been completed with adjacent features.

In order to climb in and have fun, a fee of $10 needs to be paid. This money helps cover any wear and tear of the padding and netting that covers and surrounds the structure. Different rates apply based on time spent, with two hours coming in closer to $13. If they want to also enjoy the Explore Zone, there are additional fees as well.

The Play Zone is open Sunday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
