The Seattle Thunderbirds are one win away from capturing the Ed Chynoweth Cup after a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg ICE in game four of the WHL Championship series.

Kevin Korchinski, Gracyn Sawchyn, Dylan Guenther and Nico Myatovic scored for the Thunderbirds, and Thomas Milic made 31 saves.

Seattle can clinch the title and a spot in the Memorial Cup with a win in game five on Friday in Kent, Washington. Games six and seven, if needed, will be back in Winnipeg on Sunday and Monday.

In the NHL, the Eastern Conference Final opens tonight with the Carolina Hurricanes hosting the Florida Panthers. Game one of the Western Conference Final between the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars is on Friday in Vegas.

Hofer stops 16 as Canada beats Kazakhstan

Team Canada stayed unbeaten at the World Hockey Championship with a 5-1 win over Kazakhstan on Wednesday in Latvia.

Lawson Crouse scored twice for Canada, and former Swift Current Broncos goaltender Joel Hofer made 16 saves in his first international start since the 2020 World Juniors.

Canada faces Switzerland in their next game on Saturday.

Jansen's walk-off blast gives Jays win over Yankees

Danny Jansen hit a walk-off three-run homer in the 10th inning as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 3-0 Wednesday night at Rogers Centre.

Chris Bassitt allowed three hits and struck out seven batters over seven scoreless innings for the Jays, who snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory.

The four-game set wraps up tonight with Jose Berrios starting for the Jays against Nestor Cortes.

Heat rally to beat Celtics in game one of ECF

Jimmy Butler scored 35 points as the Miami Heat rallied from a slow start to beat the Boston Celtics 123-116 in game one of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Final. Miami trailed by nine at the half before scoring a franchise record 46 points in the third quarter.

Denver hosts the LA Lakers in game two of the Western Conference Final tonight with the Nuggets leading the series 1-0.
