There are a lot of big events and activities taking place in the southwest on the last weekend of May, including a couple of fundraising events, motor racing and lacrosse action, and the long-awaited return of the Swift Current 57’s to Mitchell Field! 

Here’s a rundown of just a few things that are happening this weekend: 

Saturday

Swift Current Stock Car Association Season Opener 

The last weekend of May is always a huge one for motorsports fans with the historic Indianapolis 500, Formula 1’s iconic Monaco Grand Prix, and NASCAR’s marathon Coca-Cola 600 all happening on Sunday, but local racing fans can watch the green flag drop on another season for the Swift Current Stock Car Association on Saturday. The season-opening race day sponsored by the City of Swift Current will see the modifieds, street stocks, hobbies, and a bump-to-pass enduro event, and kids 17 and under get in for free thanks to Annugas. 3K’s Kitchen will also be there with a food truck, and there will also be bar service sponsored by Urban Cellars, a 50/50 draw and prizes to be won. 

When: Saturday, May 28 at 2:00pm. 

Where: Kinetic Exhibition Park. 

Cost: $10 for adults, kids 17 and under are free.

 

IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's logo

IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s 

Fundraising walks are starting to happen again, and the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s will return as an in-person event on Saturday afternoon. All the money raised at the walk will go to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan to support those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, as well as research toward finding a cure. 

When: Saturday, May 28 at 1:00pm. 

Where: Swift Current Comprehensive High School Track 

Registration: On-site starting at 12:00 noon or online.  

Sunday

Swift Current 57’s Home Opener 

For the first time in 1017 days, the Swift Current 57’s will play a WCBL home game on Sunday afternoon against the Regina Red Sox, and they would love for baseball fans to pack the park and welcome them back home. 

When: Sunday, May 29 at 2:05pm. 

Where: Mitchell Field 

Cost: $12 

Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History Poster

Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History 

Another fundraising walk returning this weekend is the Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History hosted by the Swift Current Kinsmen and Kinettes on Sunday, with the proceeds going to Cystic Fibrosis Canada to fund vital CF research and care. The event includes a free barbecue for the walkers and great prizes to be won. 

When: Sunday, May 29 at 9:00am. 

Where: Riverside Park 

Registration: On-site starting at 8:00am or online

Swift Current Wolverines Double-Header 

The Swift Current Junior B Wolverines Lacrosse team have been seeing some great crowds and a party atmosphere for their games so far, and they’re hoping that will continue with a pair of home games against the Saskatoon SWAT on Sunday. There will also be a bar and concession run by Louie D’s Catering as well as a 50/50 draw, and fans can get their tickets for an e-bike raffle sponsored by Robertson Motorsports and Marine. 

When: Sunday, May 29 at 12:00 noon and 6:00pm 

Where: Fairview West Arena 

Cost: $5.00 for adults, children are free
