After only a year in the community, Sunny Sideup Stationery has been honoured at the Swift Current Business Excellence Awards (SCBEX).
Located at 161-A Central Avenue North in the heart of downtown Swift Current, this tiny shop has big potential. That bright future was recognized when it was awarded the Startup/New Business of the Year SCBEX.
Accepting the award on behalf of the company was Owner Operator, Danitra Laverdiere, who was emotional after being honoured by the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce.
"It's crazy how fast this all came about," said Laverdiere. "I wasn't expecting any kind of recognition. Then, when I was nominated, it blew me out of the water."
Right now, Sunnyside Stationery is strictly a stationery. However, with the winning of the SCBEX award, Laverdiere is considering expanding the services being offered.
"I had it in my mind that I wanted to open a bakery with it," revealed Laverdiere. "I guess this is just the first step of maybe going in that direction too."
For now, Laverdiere feels like there is more responsibility that comes with Sunnyside Stationery now that she has won the award. It will be her goal to continue to share her passion with more people.
"I'm really excited to see Sunnyside do more in the community," finished Laverdiere.
The Startup/New Business of the Year SCBEX was sponsored by the Innovation Federal Credit Union. Being that this year was the 25th anniversary of the SCBEX, they received a replica of the main award, slightly smaller but equally as elegant as the full-sized model.
