Two huge events are coming to the Swift Current Curling Club in October.

The club announced the return of the RBC Wealth Management Western Showdown which will feature not only a women’s event for the first time, but the biggest international women’s curling event in Canada this season with 30 teams competing for a prize purse of $45,000.

Some of the big names in the women's event include three-time defending world champion Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland, Daniela Jentsch and her team from Germany, and the defending Saskatchewan provincial champions skipped by Penny Barker. The event goes from October 13-16.

Meanwhile, five-time world champion and defending Olympic gold medallist Niklas Edin from Sweden will headline the men’s Western Showdown, which also features last year’s winner Kevin Koe, and former provincial champions Steve Laycock, Matt Dunstone and Colton Flasch. That event runs from October 28-31.

All the games in both events will take place in the curling arena at InnovationPlex, and tickets are available at the door or in advance at the Swift Current Curling Club for $10 per draw, $20 per day or $40 for the whole event.
