It’s draft week in the Western Hockey League.

While the WHL’s Prospects Draft takes place on Thursday, the US Priority Draft will happen this morning with teams selecting 2008-born prospects from the western states. Each team can make two selections, with the Swift Current Broncos making their first pick at fourth overall. The Spokane Chiefs will have the first overall pick.

The Broncos will make their first selection in Thursday’s Prospects Draft in the second round, 30th overall. The Prince Albert Raiders hold the first overall pick.

The WHL Championship series between the Winnipeg ICE and Seattle Thunderbirds gets underway on Friday.

Hurricanes rout Devils to take commanding 3-1 series lead

Martin Necas scored twice as the Carolina Hurricanes scored six unanswered goals to beat New Jersey 6-1 and put the Devils on the brink of elimination. Jordan Martinook had a goal and two assists for the Hurricanes, who have outscored the Devils 17-3 in their three victories this series.

In other NHL action, Max Domi had two goals and an assist as the Dallas Stars evened up their series with the Seattle Kraken with a 6-3 win in game four. Jaden Schwartz had two goals for the Kraken in a losing cause.

Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs will look to avoid a sweep at the hands of the eighth-seeded Florida Panthers when the two teams meet for game four in Sunrise, while the Edmonton Oilers host Vegas with the Golden Knights leading the series 2-1.

Jays see win-streak snapped with loss in Philly

Nick Castellanos went three-for-four with a home run as the Philadelphia Phillies doubled up Toronto 8-4 to snap the Blue Jays’ three-game winning streak.

Bo Bichette had a homer and an RBI double for the Jays, who wrap up the quick two-game series this afternoon with right-hander Kevin Gausman on the mound.

Last two NBA MVPs lead teams to playoff wins

League MVP Joel Embiid scored 33 points as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Boston Celtics 115-103 to take a 3-2 lead in their NBA playoff series.

Meanwhile, last season’s MVP Nikola Jokic had 29 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for his 10th career playoff triple-double as the Denver Nuggets beat Phoenix 118-102 to take a 3-2 series lead.

Tonight, the Miami Heat and LA Lakers can wrap up their series with wins over the New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors, respectively.
