The Swift Current Wolverines offence exploded early last night but they had to fend off a late push from the visiting Moose Jaw Mustangs for a 14-9 victory in Prairie Gold Lacrosse League action.

Shane Cornelson led the Wolverines' offensive attack finding the back of the net four times and registering a game-high six points. Adam Zanidean, Grady Henderson, and Ryder Smith all scored a pair of goals in the win while Riley Schafer and Paul Piche each had five-point outings.

Swift Current came out flying to start the game jumping out to a 6-0 lead only 13 minutes into the game. The Wolverines extended the lead to 11-1 late in the second period before the Mustangs strung together seven of the game's next eight goals cutting the deficit to 12-8.

"The message before the game was set the pace and make them catch us," Wolverines Head Coach Kevin Schafer said. "I think for the first three-quarters of the game we did that. Then we ran into some penalty problems again and it kind of caught up to us."

The Wolverines entered the contest as the least penalized team in the league but were called for eight straight penalties late in the second period and the third period.

Swift Current will host the Regina Barracudas on Saturday night for the league semi-finals, with the winner advancing to the league finals against Prince Albert in a best-of-three series.
