Father’s Day is now upon us, and there’s a lot of things to do with your dad and the whole family this weekend, including the return of some Father’s Day traditions in our community.

Golden West Hot Dog Day 

Our traditional summer kick-off returns on Friday! Join us for a free hot dog and pop and meet the staff of Golden West and Homefield as we say a huge “thank you” to our community for your support! 

When: Friday, June 17 from 11:30am to 1:00pm 

Where: Innovation Centre north courtyard along Chaplin St. E. 

Cost: Free!

SaskPower Windscape Kite Festival 

After a two-year hiatus, the Windscape Kite Festival returns, bringing colour and joy to the skies above Swift Current. This festival features professional kite flyers, performers and family-friendly activities. 

When: Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19 from 10:00am to 5:00pm, rain or shine. 

Where: Windscape Kite Festival site (corner of 11th Ave SW and Marston Street) 

Cost: Admission is free with vendors and concessions on site.

Long Day’s Night Music Festival 

The Long Day’s Night Music Festival kicks off on Thursday with Oral Fuentes and continues with Yukon Blonde on Friday, Tanika Charles on Saturday and JJ Shiplett on Sunday. 

When: Thursday, June 16 to Sunday, June 19. 

Where: Windscape Kite Festival site (corner of 11th Ave SW and Marston Street)

Opening Day for Market Square 

The bell will ring again to kick off another summer of fun at Swift Current’s Market Square. Running every Saturday until September, Market Square features local vendors, the Swift Current Farmer’s Market, local entertainment and special events throughout the summer. 

When: Saturday, June 18 at 9:30am 

Where: Centennial Market District in downtown Swift Current.

The (not so) Spring Fling Disc Golf Tournament 

This fundraising event for the Canadian Mental Health Association Swift Current branch is open to all ages and will be happening on the newly expanded 18-hole disc golf course in the southside along the Chinook Pathway. 

When: Saturday, June 18 at 2:00pm, registration is at 1:30pm 

Where: Riverside Park 

Cost: $40 per golfer

Father’s Day at Doc’s Town 

Doc’s Town Heritage Village opens for another season just in time for Father’s Day on Sunday. Visitors can take a glimpse at what life was like in Swift Current’s past with eight restored heritage buildings, including a blacksmith shop with live demonstrations every hour, and the Country Pleasures Tea Room with homemade pie and other treats to enjoy. Doc’s Town will be open every Saturday and Sunday until September, and there will be special events throughout the season. 

When: Sunday, June 19 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. 

Where: Kinetic Exhibition Park 

Cost: Free

Stock Car Racing Weekend 

The Swift Current Stock Car Association is back on the track with racing under the lights on Friday and Saturday. The modifieds, streets and minis will all be racing both nights, and on Saturday, there will be a special kids’ demolition derby! 

When: Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm 

Where: Kinetic Exhibition Park 

Cost: $10 for 15 and older, $5 for kids 6-14, free for kids five and under.

Father’s Day Soap Box Races 

A Father’s Day tradition returns to Swift Current with the largest soap box races in Canada, where kids ages 7-13 will be racing their homemade cars downhill on Central Avenue North. 

When: Sunday, June 19 

Where: Central Avenue North between Herbert and Dufferin Streets. 

Cost: Free
