At their AGM Tuesday night, the Swift Current 57's announced a financial dip in 2018, a year removed from a hefty profit after their 2017 championship season.

The 57's announced a loss of $9,560.61 over the 2018 summer season.

"The team's still in a solid position. The numbers maybe weren't quite where we'd like them," said 57's President Mike Mutlow noting a rewarding addition of the 2017 season did leave the club in the red in 2018.

"We did contribute back - there was money that came out of the budget this year for (championship) rings, which is a healthy expense, and I believe it's the right thing to do for the kids that come and play for us, they deserve that."

Rings for the back-to-back championship-winning 57's totalled $10,826.50.

Attendance and season tickets were both down this season. Season tickets totalled an approximated $27,000, down from roughly $33,000 in 2017. Meanwhile gate receipts were just under half of last year's impressive mark of $61,626,31, sitting at $30,000.05.

That, in part, can be attributed to six fewer home playoff games this time around. After hosting eight playoff games in 2017, including a jam-packed 1189 fans at Game 5 of the WMBL Championship series, the 57's fell in the first round to the Regina Red Sox in four games this summer - two hosted at Mitchell Field.

It also proved a bit of a tough task following up their $43,396.19 last season. In the first full year of a re-brand to the 57's, merchandising sales and buzz surrounding the team shot through the roof. That translated to more money spent, and people at the ball park.

"I think part of it was we maybe rested on our laurels a little bit. We didn't get in the community and promote ourselves as good as we should have," said the 57's President. "We had such a fantastic year the first year of the name change, and we maybe didn't go to work again - we just thought 'Okay this was easy.' It was a good lesson for us. We're still in a solid position, we'll move forward, and make it better."

Though 2017 was a difficult anomaly to gauge, 2018 provided a what Mutlow feels was a better, more attainable mark to improve on.

"The second year after the name change maybe sets us in a little better of a position organizationally, so to speak," he said. "Now we know maybe what the standard is a little bit better, and what's expected of us out there. We're still always looking to improve and get bigger, and better, but maybe that is the standard for us. It's a better bottom line and better idea where we should be."

It's now full steam ahead for the newly-appointed 57's President, who was voted as such by acclamation last night. Looking ahead to the 2019 season, a key area Mutlow looks to better improve on is with player-fan interactions away from the park.

He says connecting in the community is crucial for both the ballpark atmosphere, as well as a healthy bump in ticket sales.

"Just be out there all the time as much as we can. We need to increase our season ticket sales," noted Mutlow. "I think part of that is getting out in the community and promoting them. We need to maybe add value to our tickets somehow. We haven't put our finger on that one yet, but it's something that we need to work on and decide a way to do it."

Meanwhile, two other Executive positions were also voted on by acclamation at last night's AGM.

Chris Keleher was appointed as the new VP of Administration, and Angela Schultz was re-appointed as the VP of Marketing.

Mutlow says the board is already anticipating an exciting 2019, especially with a new clubhouse set to cotinue rounding out the Mitchell Field experience.
