Backs are against the wall for the 57's after dropping game two of their series with the Weyburn Beavers 6-0. The series now sits at 2-0 in favour of Weyburn.

A strong start to game two for Swift Current, with the bases loaded and no out in the bottom of the first inning, was cut short after Weyburn escaped the jam with three straight outs to strand the three 57's base-runners.

After that, Beavers starter Ryan Johnson settled in on the mound, striking out 10 batters over his six innings of work. A trio of Beau Rabedeaux, Cody Pamperin, Eric Evans came in relief of the Beavers' starter, working three innings of no-hit ball.

On the mound for Swift Current, a tough start for Dustin Wells, who exited the ball game with two outs in the second inning. A five-run second inning was backed by a pair of errors, closing Wells' stat line without an earned run (1.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO).

Swift Current's bullpen was a positive in the shutout loss for head coach Joe Carnahan and the 57's, with one earned run over seven and one-third innings by Aidan Goodall (4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO), and Fernando Pena (3.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO).

As the series shifts to Weyburn for game three, and a possible game four if necessary, the 57's bench boss says there's comfort in sticking to a game plan that's helped the 57's win 36 games this season.

"We just had a bad two games at the plate, that's all there is to it. All we have to do is come out and win game number 37 and think about everything after that," Carnahan said. "That's been out mindset all year - just play the game that's in front of us and worry about everything else when that happens. In baseball the tables turn quickly and that's what we're looking to do now."

Matt Michalski gets the start for Swift Current in game three, who has matched up well with the Beavers through a combined 15 innings over two starts in the regular season (15 IP, 14 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 5 SO) for an even 3.00 ERA.

First pitch of game three gets underway at 7:05 p.m. from Tom Laing Park in Weyburn.

In the WMBL's other remaining playoff series, the Edmonton Prospects tied up their series with the Medicine Hat Mavericks with a resounding 9-0 win in Medicine Hat last night.
