From backs against the wall, to back-to-back WMBL titles.

A force-out at second base secured the final out of the game, and the opportunity to hoist the Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy as WMBL champs for the Swift Current 57's.

"I could just hear the fans starting to go crazy - my adrenaline was pumping hard," said 57's right fielder Nick Canas. "This was one of the best feelings of my life."

The Swift Current 57's were crowned as champions of the WMBL Thursday night after a 4-0 win in the fifth and final game against the Edmonton Prospects in front of 1189 fans at Mitchell Field.

For the second series in a row, the 57's were playing catch-up baseball. After the East Division final saw Swift Current climb back from down 2-0 in the series to Weyburn, they topped it off with a comeback on an even bigger stage with two straight wins against Edmonton in the Championship series after being down 2-1. In all, the 57's won five 'do-or-die' scenario games in the 2017 WMBL playoffs.

"That speaks a lot about their character, and how bad they wanted it," said head coach Joe Carnahan about his 57's squad. "They weren't going to be denied, they just... I can't say enough about them. It was unbelievable that they did this here."

Starting pitcher Matt Michalski got the complete-game shutout win in Game 5 for Swift Current, giving up five hits and striking out six batters over his nine innings of work.

"Every pitch you're realizing that you're doing it for your teammates... the guys that have picked you up all season," said Michalski. "I was just trying to give it my all out there tonight - it's pretty awesome to have good stuff at the most important time of the season."

The 57's were steady offensively as well in the final contest to once again hoist the Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy as WMBL champs.

Riley Campbell, who was named WMBL playoff MVP, doubled to lead off the first inning for the 57's and scored the next at-bat thanks to an RBI single from center fielder Matt Bondarchuk.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the 57's regular season RBI record-holder Blake Adams did was he does best, as the left fielder drove in Riley Campbell with an RBI single of his own.

Scoring in a second-straight inning to go up 3-0 in the game, second baseman Cole Thibideau hit the game's third RBI single, plating catcher John Baiada.

Topping off the team and game's scoring, Nick Canas hit his second triple of the WMBL championship series in the home half of the eighth inning, before Mason Brown drove him in continuing the RBI single tradition in the game.

"This team elevated their game tonight, and I just tried to elevate my game alongside them throughout the playoffs," said third baseman Riley Campbell. "Just a bunch of special players on this team - watching everyone come up in big situations was fun."

The Game 5 win marks the 12th time the Swift Current baseball franchise has won the league, and the first as the 57's after a re-branding from the previous 'Indians' name was on the uniforms for the first 11 titles.

Now with the 62-game season - including playoffs - in the rearview mirror, the 57's infielder shares his biggest takeaway from an intensive baseball-filled summer.

"I'm taking away just a sense of humility. You can't take anything for granted - you have to work for what you get," Campbell said. "Every day we were out here needing to get better and needing to grind every day we had a chance. 62 games... it really tells who wants to play baseball in a short period of time."
