It has long been said in Baseball that good pitching will beat good hitting. Unfortunately for the Swift Current 57's, that logic proved true Sunday afternoon in Weyburn.

Beaver's starting pitcher Landon Mostellar threw a complete game two-hitter, as Weyburn handed Swift Current their second straight loss, 6-2.

Tied 0-0 in the top of the 2nd inning, the 57's were able to jump out in-front.

Grant Van Scoy hit his first home run with Swift Current to put the visitors up 1-0. Then Weyburn committed two straight errors, allowing Brett Esau to reach base safely before coming around to score.

However, the lead was short-lived for the 57's.

An Evan Weidner solo-shot in the bottom of the 2nd cut the lead in half, before Weyburn took the lead for good in the bottom of the 3rd.

An error, home-run, single and a double off of Swift Current starting pitcher Fernando Pena cashed in three runs for a 4-2 Beavers lead and brought an end to Pena's night after 2-2/3 innings.

Weyburn continued to pad their lead with a single run in the 5th and 6th innings to round out the scoring.

Trey Taylor, Layne Downing, Ernesto Romero and Aidan Goodall all made relief appearances for the 57's.

Taylor and Downing were tagged with a run each in their appearance.

The defeat marked the second straight game in which Swift Current jumped out in-front but were only able to score in one inning, and were unable to hold on to the lead.

In Moose Jaw on Saturday, Swift Current put up three-runs in the top of the 5th for a 3-0 lead, but they ultimately fell 4-3 to the Miller Express.

The 57's will look to put an end to the two-game losing skid on Tuesday when they return to Mitchell Field.

The same Weyburn Beavers club will be making the return trip to Swift Current for the contest.

The 57's (11-7) are off on Monday and currently sit 1.5 games back of Regina for top spot in the WMBL's East Division.
