Playing their fifth game in six nights and having another game on the schedule Tuesday, the Swift Current 57's knew it was going to be all hands on deck when they took to Mitchell Field Monday night.

Hosting the Weyburn Beavers, Swift Current Head Coach Joe Carnahan elected for a spot-start from reliever Garrett Goodall, who helped shut-down the Beavers offence early as Swift Current rolled to a 10-5 victory.

"(Garrett) did a great job for us," Carnahan said. "We had a bunch of game here and had to get a guy in that could give us a few innings, and he did an outstanding job. He kept his pitch count down and kept throwing up zeros."

Goodall pitched four scoreless innings, surrendering four hits and one walk while striking out three.

"We were hoping to get three innings out of him," Carnahan said. "He gave us that extra inning there, which helped us out since we were having to use our bullpen throughout the game. It helped us line things up for Tuesday."

The 57's offence helped out the pitching situation Monday night, providing plenty of early run support.

Swift Current took advantage of an erratic Sloan Dieter.

The Weyburn starter issued four walks, two singles and hit one batter resulting in a five-run 1st inning for the 57's.

The outburst was a welcomed sight for Swift Current's offence who had been averaging just 2.5 runs per game over their last four contests.

"Recently we haven't been taking advantage of our opportunities," said 57's Second Baseman Cole Thibideau, who capped the five-run first with a two-RBI single. "Tonight we did and that is what gave us the win. If we didn't put up a ten-spot they could have bounced back, so those extra RBI are good when you can get them."

"For Cole to get that hit, especially with the way we have been going, we haven't been able to get that hit, was big for us," Carnahan said. "You could hear the guys take a deep breath and a sense of ease and everything fell into place after that".

From that point on the flood gates seemed to open.

The Swift Current bats used three singles and took advantage of three Weyburn errors in the bottom of the 3rd inning to chase Dieter from the game.

The 57's wound up cashing in three runs in the inning extending their lead to 8-0, before further widening the gap in the 4th.

Swift Current scored two more runs in the bottom of the 4th after Weyburn reliever Conner Starke gave up a single, a walk and hit two batters.

"It really helps your confidence on the mound," said Goodall after watching the offence give him plenty of run support Monday night. "You can just attack the strike zone and if you make a mistake it doesn't really matter that much. You just keep doing what you're doing and throwing strikes."

Once satisfied with Garrett's performance for the evening, Carnahan went on to the mound and handed the ball to his brother Aidan, who promptly went two innings while giving up just one hit.

"It's definitely a pretty cool feeling," Garrett said after having his brother take over for him on the mound.

Leading the game game 10-0 in the top of the 8th, the 57's handed the ball to Swift Current native Devin Schultz for the second time this season.

After putting up a scoreless inning his first time around, Schultz had a tough time commanding the strike-zone Monday night and was tagged four runs and only manged to record one out.

Looking to save his main bullpen arms for Medicine Hat on Tuesday, Carnahan called Thibideau to the mound.

The Omaha, Nebraska product gave up one run but recorded the final five outs the put Swift Current back in the win column.

"It felt good to get back on the bump," Thibideau said. "I hadn't had a chance to get on the bump in a while and I felt it went well."

With the win, Swift Current improved their record to 6-3 and now sit just a half game back of Regina for top spot in the Eastern Division.

The 57's will return to Mitchell Field on Tuesday night when they welcome the Medicine Hat Mavericks (2-6) to Swift Current.

"It was good," Carnahan said. "Our first guys did a good job putting up zeros. Offensively we were able to score some runs and we were able to give a couple guys some rest to get ready for Tuesday."
