Amid all the cancellations and suspensions of operations amid the outbreak of COVID-19, there was still some positive news to be had in the southwest sporting world Thursday.

Swift Current baseball prospect Brody Alexandre and Baseball Canada's Junior Men's National Team are in the middle of their spring camp in Florida, and took on the Toronto Blue Jays in an exhibition game.

The current grade 12 student at SCCHS and his Junior National Team came out on the losing end in a 22-6 result against the Blue Jays' spring training squad, which had a few notable names in the lineup.

Alexandre was the first baseman in the game, hitting out of the eight-hole in the lineup. He went 0-for-3, recording a walk and two strikeouts.

Shortly after the game, Major League Baseball cancelled the remainder of spring training due to coronavirus.

That means the end of Alexandre and the JNT's up coming games against prospect squads from the New York Yankees (March 13) and Detroit Tigers (March 14).

The Thursday game against Toronto was the second MLB roster the JNT faced. Canada lost 6-3 to the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

Alexandre will be at spring camp until March 15 - we'll have comment on the experience once back in the country.
