New Swift Current Broncos defenceman Josh Anderson is looking to make his presence felt quickly in the lineup - both with his new team, and the opposition.

"I'm a stay-at-home, shutdown defenceman. Not afraid to mix it up and stand up for teammates," the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Anderson said about his game, adding that he's looking forward to being another gritty player in the lineup.

"We make it hard for their players to play against. When we make it harder on them, they're probably going to back off a little bit. When somebody gets run over... it's kind of our job to go out and stick up for them."

Anderson was acquired by the Broncos on January 7 in a deal that sent Swift's 2018 and 2019 first-round bantam draft picks back the other way to the Prince George Cougars.

"Yeah I had a good idea," said Anderson, one of the league's top shutdown defenceman, on if he felt he could be traded before Wednesday afternoon's WHL Trade Deadline.

"Leading up to the trade deadline you hear things, so obviously you kind of mentally prepare yourself for that, which I did, and I got moved here."

The 2016 third-round NHL draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche joins what is looking to be an offensive juggernaut moving forward post-trade deadline. Although Anderson has seven points (1 G, 6 A) from the point this season, he feels he can certainly contribute on the offensive end as well.

"For sure, the biggest thing obviously is just getting pucks through to the net, let the skilled forwards bang them in - points will come that way," he noted.

Not only is the former Prince George Cougar looking forward to the offense in southwest Saskatchewan, but the all around opportunity of being on the blueline for the team with the second-best record in the WHL.

"The opportunity is going to be huge for me," said Anderson. "Obviously I'm working for a contract right now, and there's no place I'd rather be in than here and win in a Memorial Cup with these guys."

That quest for the new-look Broncos begins tonight as they're on the road in Prince Albert taking on the Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.
