The Bantam A Broncos shifted into cruise control in Game 2 of their Bantam A Provincial Championship series Sunday afternoon at Fairview West.

Swift Current carried a 3-1 lead over the Lumsden/Bethune Lions into the second game of their two-game total-point series.

With a provincial title on the line, the Bantam A Broncos used first-period goals from Ben Patenaude and Connor Choo-Foo to take a 2-1 lead in the game - a 5-2 lead in the series.

"We wanted to put it away right off the first period," said forward Kai Haubrich. "We got a quick couple ones right off the bat to get us going, and we just never stopped from there."

Period 2 was where the game was sealed for Swift Current.

Haubrich scored twice, while Garrett Kurtz and Ashton Schroeder added singles for a resounding 7-2 lead, or 10-3 overall.

With the banner within arms reach for the Broncos, both teams traded third-period goals for an 8-3 final (11-4 overall).

Haubrich put home the Bantam Broncos' in the final frame, for a memorable hat-trick in the Provincial-winning effort.

"Happy we got the win, pulled it out - it was a close game in Game 1, but we played way harder in Game 2 and we got it done," said Haubrich, who also added three assists for the six-point afternoon.

Hunter Arntsen earned the win in net for Swift Current.

For Haubrich, and the rest of the second-year Bantam Broncos, it was a fitting way to end their run before making the leap to the Midget ranks in 2019-20.

"It's my last year with all of them, so made it feel special - we got it done with all the boys," said the beaming Haubrich.
