A tough start to the second round of WMBL playoffs for the Swift Current 57's.

A 12-4 loss in game one to the Weyburn Beavers saw the squad from the southeast rack up 20 hits. Six Beaver batters recorded multi-hit games, with two - Zach Mathis and Anthony Wiggins - having four-hit days.

Bobby St. Pierre went five innings on the mound, but was charged with the loss after giving up eight earned runs, on 13 hits in his outing. On the mound for the Beavers, Garrett Waters went the distance, giving up four earned runs on ten hits over his nine innings.

Both sides had three home runs in game one. For Weyburn, Zach Frazier and Ulysses Fluellen both knocked their first of the postseason, while Carlos Flores hit his third in five games. Two 57's both had their first home run of the postseason as well, as third baseman Riley Campbell and catcher Mason Brown both cleared the fence with solo shots. Bodie Cooper hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning - his third of the postseason.

Cooper was the brightest spot at the plate for the 57's in game one, who along with that two-run shot, had a double and single for a three-hit night. The product of Chubbuck, Idaho saw his postseason average rise to .455 headed into game two of round two.

Looking to even up the series tonight, pitcher Dustin Wells gets the nod for Swift Current, who carries a 2.84 ERA in the playoffs after going 5-0 with a 1.02 ERA in the regular season.

Game time from Mitchell Field is 7:05 p.m.

Elsewhere in the WMBL, the Medicine Hat Mavericks took game one of their series with the Edmonton Prospects 5-3.
