Josh Paterson struck on a third period power to lift the Saskatoon Blades to a sweep of a home-and-home with the Swift Current Broncos.

Pateron's rebound goal was his 6th in 3 games as and 16th point in 12 games as he has emerged as a go-to weapon for the surging Blades.

Saskatoon has won five straight games, while the Broncos are in the midst of their first three-game losing skid of the season.

Logan Flodell made 38 saves on 41 Saskatoon shots to keep his team close especially in a hectic second period.

16-year-old Nolan Maier earned his eighth straight win for the Blades.

The teams traded goals in both the first and second periods. Tyler Lees took advantage of a Swift Current turnover and fed Dryden Michaud for his second of the season. Ethan Regnier then knocked a Blades clearing attempt out of the air and ripped his second of the season under Maier.

Saskatoon took the lead back in the second period when Evan Fiala converted a 2 on 1 following an errant pinch by the Broncos in the offensive zone. Swift Current again quickly responded when Kole Gable ripped home his third of the season on a great shot less than a minute later.

The Broncos again struggled on the power play going 0 for 3 for the second straight game. Saskatoon went 1 for 4.

Swift Current falls to 26-10-2-0 on the season. They are still second in the WHL standings, but are now 9 points back of Moose Jaw for first with a game in hand.

The Broncos host Kootenay on Wednesday before playing three games in three days on the weekend.

Swift Current was without captain Glenn Gawdin in Saskatoon as he missed the game sick. They were already playing without Aleksi Heponiemi, Tyler Steenbergen and Artyom Minulin due to the World Junior Championship.

The Broncos had won six in a row without Steenbergen and Heponiemi, but have now dropped their last three games and likely have at least four more to play before those three will return to Swift Current.

In the Quarter-Finals tomorrow Steenbergen and Canada play Switzerland, Minulin and Russia play the United-States, while Heponiemi and Finland take on the Czech Republic. The tournament wraps up on Friday.
