After a slew of transactions this season saw Swift Current positioned as the seller, the Broncos were on the buying end this time around, as they acquired forward Tyler Lees (’00) from the Victoria Royals.

The Regina-born Lees is headed back to his home province, with a conditional ninth-rounder in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft headed to Victoria.

Lees was drafted by the Saskatoon Blades in the fifth round (94th overall) of the 2015 Bantam Draft, and spent parts of two seasons in the ‘Bridge City’, before getting dealt to the west coast this past offseason on July 20.

This season, the 5-foot-11, 168-pound centreman had a goal and two assists in 27 games with the Royals. For his career, Lees has four goals and seven points over 66 regular-season games.

There’s some familiarity with a couple current players, for the newest member of the blue-and-green-clad Broncos.

Lees played the 2016-17 season with his hometown Regina Pat Canadians of the SMAAAHL, who had fellow forwards Matthew Culling and Eric Houk on the roster. Houk and Culling were in their rookie season, while Lees was a sophomore for a Pat C’s club that earned a SMAAAHL title.

The Broncos are back in action Wednesday night at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex, as they play host to the Red Deer Rebels at 7 p.m., somewhat fresh off a 1-0 shutout win over the rival Regina Pat on Sunday.
