Swift Current Broncos forward Logan Barlage is looking to take the next step in his game, as he gets set to play his first full season in the WHL.

The 6'4" centerman suited up for four regular season games and 13 playoff games with the Broncos during the 2016-17 season, after spending most of the season with the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League's Prince Albert Mintos.

In 46 games with the Mintos last season, the Broncos 4th-overall bantam draft pick in 2016 recorded 76 points (37 G, 39 A), on his way to being named the league's Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, and Top Forward.

With the large step up to the WHL level from Midget AAA, the product of Humboldt, Saskatchewan says he realized he needed to put in heavy off-season work to prepare him for the physical demands of life in the WHL.

"I took that into the summer and worked on my skating, explosiveness, and just working hard off of the ice getting my body prepared for the big guys that are out here compared to midget. It was a good summer and I think I got ready for this season," he said.

Barlage also says he hopes his two-way style of play will help limit any growing pains while adjusting to the process.

"That's how I play - defense first," he said. "However it goes, you've got to stay positive with it - I'll accept my role on the team, whatever it ends up being. It's a matter of making sure I do what I can to get better every day."

The Broncos are set to open the season Friday, September 22, against the Blades in Saskatoon - the first of four straight road games.
