The Swift Current Broncos didn't need to wait long to sign the prospect included in the Max Patterson deal with Everett to a Standard Player Agreement.

The Broncos picked up the rights to Dawson Springer and a future fourth-rounder on December 3rd, and the 16-year-old officially put pen to paper today.

"We're pretty happy with it," said Broncos Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Dean Brockman. "We are fortunate he's going to be a part of our program this year as an AP and down the road as a player. It gives us that 02 forward we were looking for and we're pretty excited about it."

Springer, a product of Rocanville, Saskatchewan, is scoring at a rapid pace in his first season at the Midget AAA level with the SMAAAHL's Prince Albert Mintos.

The 2002-born forward has 19 goals and 28 points in 26 games for the Mintos. Springer's goal total currently has him tied for first in the league.

"When you score goals at all levels there's something to it," Brockman said. "A lot of it is natural he's got that quick release. Certainly I know there's lots of things he needs to work on in his game, but that's something that's really difficult to teach when you get a guy who can score with an initial shot. That's a pretty big deal."

Springer will get his first taste of WHL action as a call up when the Broncos visit the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday. Swift Current's next game action is at home against the Raiders tomorrow night.
