The Swift Current Broncos have the CHL's top ranked team on the ropes, now they are looking for the final knockout blow.

Leading the Regina Pats 3-1 in their best of seven Eastern Conference semi-final series, the Broncos will have their first opportunity to eliminate the Pats Friday night at the Brandt Centre.

"We'll do anything we can to put them below us and in the rear-view mirror," said Broncos Captain Glenn Gawdin, who had the winner during the third overtime of game four.

"That said, it is game five and we know they'll have a push back with it being a do-or-die situation so we are going to be ready for that."

Being in a position that not many people had Swift Current pencilled into at the start of the series, Broncos Associate Coach Ryan Smith says the series is still far from over and they need to stick with what has got them this far.

"I think we just keep going the way we have the first four games, stay disciplined, be direct with our plays and take advantage of our chances when we can," he said.

"It is going to take something like the winning goal (in game four), a shot-deflection out of the air. We won't change to much as far as our approach goes."

Both the Broncos and Pats have had two days to rest and recover from Tuesday night's marathon, which lasted 4 hours and 45 minutes.

As exciting as it was to win game four and take a 3-1 series lead for the Broncos, they understand they can't live in the past and still need to come up with another strong effort in game five.

"In playoffs you have to have a short memory," said Broncos forward Ryley Lindgren, who leads the team with 14 points in the post-season.

"We'll enjoy the win, get some rest and shift our mindset to wanting (game five) and getting a win on Friday."

Tagged as the underdogs against Moose Jaw in their opening round series, and now against Regina as well, the team is thriving in that role, but learned against the Warriors that the fourth win of any series is always the toughest.

"We're not by any means thinking this series is done or that they are going to quit," Smith said.

"They are going to come out Friday at home and try to extend the series, but our goal is to go in and get that fourth win. We should learn from the Moose Jaw series, it took us one game longer than we wish it would have. Again, we know it won't be easy, they are the number one team in the country for a reason."

With the win in game four, Bronco's netminder Jordan Papirny picked up his 159 career WHL victory.

Playing in his final WHL season, the 20-year old is having his best playoff run statistically in his career.

Papirny has posted 2.08 goals against average and a .946 save percentage through 11 games against two potent offences in Moose Jaw and Regina.

Prior to his playoff run with Swift Current, his best post-season numbers came in 2015 with Brandon when he registered a 2.55 goals against average and a .921 save percentage in 19 games.

"You can't even put it into words how unbelievable Jordan has been for us," Lindgren said of his goalie.

"(Papirny) has been our rock and our backbone. We play with so much confidence in front of him. He is definitely a great guy to have on our side."

For Papirny, who will be playing his 61st career WHL post-season game Friday night, he says it is just a matter of keeping the game simple.

"We just have to stick to our game and not get caught up in the lulls of certain parts of the game when things go wrong," he said.

"We need to do the little things right, play simple d-zone, get first pucks out and block shots. When those all add up over sixty minutes I think it will contribute to a win and we'll be successful."

Heading to Regina for game five, being on the road has not been an issue for the Broncos this season.

So far in the post-season, Swift Current has gone 4-2 away from the Credit Union iPlex.

"We are just trying to play our game and close them out," Gawdin said.

"We are confident going into that building (Brandt Centre), we know we can win there, so for us we are just re-grouping and getting ready for game five."
