With one blockbuster trade the Swift Current Broncos have re-shaped the next three years of their bantam draft.

The Broncos dealt 18-year-old starting goaltender Joel Hofer to Portland for six draft picks including two future first round selections.

Hofer has impressed this season maintaining strong performances while facing the most shots of any other netminder in the WHL.

He is 6-21-2-1 this season with a 4.02 goals against average and 0.904 save percentage while facing an average of 41.9 shots per game.

Hofer's last start with the Broncos was a 1-0 shutout win over their rivals from Regina.

“We’d like to thank Joel for his contributions on and off the ice over his time in Swift Current,” Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Dean Brockman stated in a team issued media release. “He leaves us as a WHL Champion and as an established goaltender.”

The Broncos receive Portland's 2019 and 2021 first round bantam draft picks. They also add 2020 2nd and 4th round picks from the Winterhawks, Kootenay's 2019 3rd round pick and Everett's 2020 5th round pick in the deal.

Swift Current hosts Red Deer tonight.
